Hackel's Late TD Lifts Perham Past East Grand Forks, 14-11

The Perham Yellowjackets scored with 1:56 remaining in the game when Hudson Hackel capped a 13 play, 87 yard drive with a 6 yard TD run to lift Perham to a 14-11 win over East grand Forks at Ted Meinhover Field in Perham on Thursday night.  The win puts the Yellowjackets at 4-3 on the season.

The Greenwave drew first blood with a 37 yard field goal by Drew Carpenter with 6:06 to go in the first half.  Perham got the game’s first touchdown with only 17 seconds left in the half when Blaiz Schmidt scored on a one yard run.  Evan Kovash then caught the two point conversion pass from Gage Aanenson and Perham took an 8-2 halftime lead.

With 8:06 left in the game East Grand Forks regained the lead at 11-8 on a 3 yard run by Clyde Anderson and a two point conversion pass to Cooper Smith from Carpenter.  That setup Hackel’s heroics late in the game.

Perham finished the night with 144 rushing yards and 73 passing yards for a total of 217 yards, while East Grand Forks had 208 total yards (155 rushing, 53 passing).  There were no turnovers in the game and the Greenwave weren’t called for a penalty all night.  Perham was penalized 8 times for 42 yards.

Perham was led by Braylon Rach (9 carries, 82 yards), Hackel (8 carries, 49 yards, 2 receptions, 25 yards), Schmidt (10 completions, 13 attempts, 73 yards) and Kovash (4 catches, 12 yards).  Defensively, Cash Burke had the only sack of the game, and Ben Shumansky was the leading tackler with 6 solo tackles and 5 assisted tackles.  Carson Beyer was in on 9 (4 solo, 5 assists) tackles.

Perham will close out their regular season schedule with a game at Pequot Lakes next Wednesday night.
