Alexandria Boys Drop Regular Season Finale to Bemidji, 3-1

The Alexandria boys’ soccer team had their regular season close with a home match against the Bemidji Lumberjacks which ended up with a 3-1 win for the visitors.

While the play was very balanced in the first 20 minutes, the Lumberjacks were able to secure their first goal from a free kick and several rebounded shots to finally set the score 1-0 at the 28th minute.  The Cardinals got in their own heads and the morale when south resulting in two more Bemidji goals leading to a 3-0 advantage for the Lumberjacks going into halftime. 

The second half was owned by the Cardinals as they controlled play and position.  Otto Anderson secured the lone Cardinal goal in the 66th minute with the assist coming from Jack Carlson.  Final score, 3-1 in favor of Bemidji.

The Gatorade of the Game went to Jack Breitzman for his dedication to owning his role as an outside midfielder and fought hard in every battle to win the ball.  His dedication to the team and growth as a player is a highlight of the season.

The Cardinal boys’ soccer teams ends their regular season with a record of 8-6-3 and are eager to get into the playoffs.  Earning the #2 seed in the Section 8AA playoffs, the Cardinals will host the quarterfinal match against Sauk Rapids-Rice on Thursday at 7:00pm at Viking Bank Field.
