The Alexandria boys’ soccer team traveled down I-94 Thursday evening for a Central Lakes Conference match against the Sartell-St. Stephen Sabres.  The Cardinals have a history of struggling to play a solid match at the Sartell home stadium.  The two teams were scoreless at the half and finished tied 1-1 after overtime.

With the first half being mostly controlled by Sartell there was little grit from the Cardinals as they remained mostly flat during the opening 40 minutes, while the second half finally showed the Cardinal team we have all come to love.  The second half opened with Sartell scoring on a penalty kick in the 45th minute of play as a result of a hand ball in the penalty box.  While the Cardinals were down in spirit, they dug deep and bounced back.  Controlling possession and moving the ball with quick passes allowed Otto Anderson to score on a rebound in the 55th minute.  This was where the scoring ended as both teams finished out the two, 5-minute overtime halves.

The Gatorade of the Game went to Henry Ramstorf for outstanding defensive play.  Henry remained calm and positioned himself well anytime the ball came near him.

The Cardinals advance with a record of 8-4-3 and will host the Bemidji Lumberjacks for a 3:00pm kickoff Saturday at Viking Bank Field.
