For the second week in a row the New York Mills defense shutout their opponent as they blanked Bagley 20-0 on Friday night.

“A tough game for us as we played well but couldn't seem to get into a good rhythm on offense,” reported New York Mills Head Coach Matt Radniecki.  “We drove the ball and Bagley did a nice job of not allowing us to have any big plays.  We got positive yardage plays but couldn't get the big play.”

The Eagles started out the game in great fashion as they drove the field and took almost the whole first quarter and got a score on a 2 yard run by Brayden Ehnert to go ahead 6-0.  It stayed that way for the first half as the Eagles ended up on the three yard line to end the second quarter.

“In the second half the guys did a better job of executing and we had two nice long drives that we sustained and ate up a lot of clock,” noted Coach Radniecki.  “We ran the ball very well and our offensive line and Monte Briard did an outstanding job of blocking for Jonah Ruther and Brayden Ehnert.  Jonah ran with force all night long.”

Ruther scored on a 3-yard run in the third quarter and the final Mills TD came on a 20 yard run by Ehnert in the fourth quarter.  Ehnert then connected with DaShaun Robinson for the two-point conversion.

“Two weeks in a row with a shutout makes it very hard to complain about our defense,” said Radniecki.  “The guys did a nice job of getting to the ball carrier and tackling.  We gave up a few plays but overall did an outstanding job.  The guys have been working hard and we seem to be getting better and better.”

The defense was led by Blake Unger with 10 tackles.  Teagan Lausten had an interception.

New York Mills (5-0) will host Menahga on Friday night.

The Eagles  JV team won over Parkers Prairie last week by the score of 8-0 to get a win also.
