The West Central Area/Ashby football team won for a third straight week when they posted a 40-26 victory over the Hawley Nuggets on Friday.  “This was a very physical football game,” commented WCA/Ashby Head Coach Nate Wood. “Got a little too close for comfort but the kids made plays when they had to!”

Hawley got off to a fast start with a 60 yard kickoff return and a two-point conversion to take an early 8-0 lead.  The Knights responded with a 67-yard TD run by Anthony Sykora, however, they failed on their two-point try and trailed 8-6 after one quarter.

Brady Lindquist scored on a pair of 2-yard runs and Sykora scored his second TD of the night in the second quarter as WCA/Ashby built a 28-8 halftime advantage.

Hawley cut the lead to 28-14 with a 16-yard TD run in the third quarter and then started the fourth quarter with a 17-yard touchdown pass to make it a 28-20 game.  Sykora then found the end zone on a 7-yard run for a 34-20 lead for the Knights.  A 12-yard TD pass brought the Nuggets to within eight points at 34-26, but Cole Anderson caught a 4-yard TD pass from Lindquist to secure the win at 40-26.

Sykora had another huge night running the football as he had 24 attempts and 224 yards.  He also completed 3-of-6 passes for 99 yards and caught 4 passes for 16 yards.  Lindquist was 7-for-12 throwing the football for 54 yards and ran for 31 yards on 11 carries.  Anderson led the receiving corps with 5 catches for 116 yards.  Hunter Gruchow, Nas Dots and Beau Robinson led the defense with six tackles each.  Robinson also had 2 sacks, while Jake Norby and Justin Blascyk each recorded a sack.

The Knights (3-1) will travel to Crookston for a six o’clock game on Friday night.
