New York Mills remained undefeated on the football field at 4-0 after a 12-0 shutout victory over Pine River-Backus on Friday night on the Eagles home field.

Brayden Ehnert connected with Finn Roder on a 63-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter to give the home team a 6-0 lead.  The Eagles carried that momentum into the fourth quarter as Monte Briard scored on a two-yard run to build a 12-0 lead, which stood up for the duration of the game.  Leading the defense were Blake Unger with 10 tackles and Will Oakes with 8 tackles.

“A very good game for us against a tough opponent,” commented New York Mills Head Coach Matt Radniecki.  “Pine River-Backus is tough and physical and play good fundamental football.  I was really proud of how our team battled and battled and it was nice to see us make a few big plays toward the end to get the win.  This victory is big for us in Section seedings and it was fun to get the victory on parent's night in front of the crowd.  We had some guys step up on offense and defense when needed.  Our defense played outstanding in not allowing the big play to PRB.  We tackled for the most part really well and Jonah Ruther came up with a big interception in the end zone to end a threat for PRB in the third quarter.  On offense we were able to run the ball but stalled a couple times in the red zone.”

Next week the Eagles travel to Bagley to play the Flyers.
