A special teams touchdown and a potent power running attack led Thief River Falls to a 34-0 win over Fergus Falls in the Prowlers homecoming game on Friday night.

Jack Manning blocked a punt and the Prowlers returned it for a touchdown with just under three minutes to play in the first quarter.  An extra point kick by Brayden Spears gave the home team a 7-0 lead.

The Otters forced a fumble early in the second quarter and recovered the football on their own 1 yard line.  They drove the ball inside the red zone with runs of 13 yards by Jack Ratz and 18 yards by Levi King highlighting the drive.  The Otters had first and goal at the nine yard line, but a sack by Manning and a penalty on the Otters pushed them back to the 24.  Fergus Falls failed to convert on fourth down, squandering an excellent opportunity to get in the end zone.  The first half ended with a 7-0 Thief River Falls lead on the board.

On the first possession of the second half Thief River Falls went 75 yards on 11 plays and scored on a one yard run by quarterback Caleb Rosendahl.  The missed extra point kick left the score at 13-0.  On the ensuing kickoff the Otters fumbled the football and the Prowlers recovered it on the Fergus Falls 28 yard line.  Thief River scored on a one yard run by fullback Griff Lundeen and converted a two-point run for a 21-0 lead with 3 minutes to go in the third quarter.

The Prowlers increased their lead to 28-0 when Rosendahl scored his second TD of the night on a one yard run, capping a 65-yard, 13-play drive and Spears added the PAT kick.  A fumble recovery at the Fergus Falls 28 yard line setup the final touchdown of the night, a one yard run by Spears.  After the missed PAT kick the score stood at 34-0, which was the final.

“Obviously we did not execute the way we hoped too and a lot of credit goes to Thief River Falls for being really physical and being the aggressor out there tonight,” said Fergus Falls Head Coach Steve Olson.  “We didn’t respond the way we needed to and we’re going to show up Monday and hopefully get some guys healthy and start preparing for Perham.”

Thief River finished with 266 yards, all coming on the ground.  Lundeen led the way with 99 yards on 15 carries and Jake Friedrich added 90 yards on 11 carries.

The Otters were led by King with 35 yards on 5 rushing attempts and Carston Fronning with 27 yards on 3 carries.  They were held to 60 yards of total offense.  Defensively, Jacob Widness recorded a sack.

Fergus Falls (1-3) will host Perham in the Otters homecoming game at 6:00pm Friday, September 30 at the Otter Stadium Field.
