It was a battle of two unbeaten teams in Perham on Friday night with the DGF Rebels prevailing by the score of 35-20. Jordan Summers scored three touchdowns and had a massive running night with 335 yards on 43 carries. The Rebels had 396 rushing yards and 408 total yards.
DGF jumped out to an 8-0 lead midway through the first quarter when Brody Friend scored on a 6 yard pass from Owen Leach. Summers caught the two-point conversion pass from Leach.
Perham tied the game less than a minute into the second quarter when Evan Kovash returned an interception 70 yards to the end zone and Braylon Rach scored the two-point conversion. DGF regained the lead at 16-8 on a 2-yard TD run by Summers and a t wo-point conversion run by Summers with just 35 seconds remaining in the half.
Summers broke loose for a 60 yard touchdown run to start the second half and a Hayden Hauf extra point kick gave the Rebels a 23-8 lead. A two-yard TD run by Leach left the score a 29-8 after three quarters.
Kovash hauled in an 8 yard pass from Blaiz Schmidt at 8:33 of the fourth quarter, cutting the lead to 29-14. Summers carried the ball into the end zone from 14 yards out, increasing the Rebels lead to 35-14. With 2:40 left Rach came up with a 32 yard pass from Schmidt for the final score of the night, leaving the final score at 35-20.
Perham was led on the defensive side of the ball by Carson Beyer (10 solo tackles, 3 assisted tackles), Rach (7 solo tackles, forced fumble, fumble recovery), Hudson Hackel (fumble recovery), Ben Shumansky (6 solo tackles, 4 assisted tackles) and Kovash (interception). Offensively, Schmidt completed 12-of-24 passes for 106 yards and 2 TD’s. Kovash had 5 receptions for 41 yards to lead all receivers.
Perham (2-1) plays at Detroit Lakes next Friday night, while DGF (3-0) has a road game in East Grand Forks.
