The Pelican Rapids Vikings traveled to Breckenridge for their second Heart O’ Lakes Conference matchup of the season.  The Vikings had just matched up with the Cowgirls Saturday at the Pelican Rapids Invitational and split with them in 2 tight sets so they were expecting a tight battle.  Breckenridge was able to take control of the match early and post a 3-0 (25-10, 25-13, 25-18) victory over the Vikings.

Breckenridge was led by Abby Johnson (15 kills, 7 digs, 1 ace), Sydni Roberts (14 digs, 1 ace), Kelsey Ceroll (18 set assists, 10 digs), Parker Yaggie (14 set assists, 5 digs, 1 ace), Katlyn Kaehler (6 kills, 9 digs), Addie Twidwell (5 kills, 5 digs, 1 solo block, 1 block assist) and Mattea Vig (5 kills, 2 digs).

“The Cowgirls came out serving aggressively and the Vikings really struggled getting our offense going,” said Pelican Rapids Head Coach Heidi Isaman. “We had some ball control issues and the strong blockers of the Cowgirls took advantage.  The Vikings just could not get into any kind of offensive rhythm.  Set 2 we tried to regroup and knew we needed to start executing on offense.  We started to serve receive the ball very well but still were having trouble in the front row executing our offense.  Middle hitter Anna Roisum and outside hitter Kelsey Isaman had a few momentum shifts with some big kills but we just did not have enough consistent power to make their blockers work.  Hazel Haugrud, Morgan Korf, and Kelsey Isaman received serve extremely well and Libero Morgan Korf did a great job reading their hitters and digging up much or what they were throwing at us.  We just made too many mistakes in the front row and we ended up playing defense most of the night and not enough offense.”

The Vikings were led by Isaman (6 kills, 2 aces, 8 digs), Anna Roisum (3 kills, 1 ace, 6 digs, 4 set assists), Korf (28 digs), Haugrud (21 digs) and Ellie Welch (4 digs, 3 set assists, 1 block).

The Vikings are currently 1-1 in the conference and will quickly regroup to travel to Brandon on Saturday for a triangular with Brandon-Evansville and Benson.
