The Pelican Rapids Vikings hosted the Menahga Braves Tuesday and posted a 3-0 (25-22, 25-14, 25-19) win on their home floor.  “The Vikings were excited to get back in our home gym for the 2nd time this season and the energy in the gym was awesome,” exclaimed Head Coach Heidi Isaman.

The Vikings struggled to serve receive the spot servers of the Braves to start set one and ended up sending  a lot of out of systems ball over the net.  The Braves took advantage and started attacking from the outside.

“We knew we needed to fix our serve receive and get a little more aggressive on the serving line to push ahead and get ourselves back in system,” said Isaman. “A big serving run by Hazel Haugrud and power play at the net by Ellie Welch helped us come back and win set one.  Set 2 we served aggressively right out of the gate and middle hitter and setter Anna Roisum really started bringing some power to the net defensively on the block and offensively.”

The Vikings started strong and never looked back winning set 2.  Pelican Rapids started strong with a 15-9 lead in the third set.  “Our serve receive was getting better and we started to use all of our hitters and continue to attack,” noted Coach Isaman.  “Overall it was a great night for the Vikings getting a sweep with all 3 teams!”

The Vikings were led by Haugrud (13 digs, 4 aces), Roisum (7 kills, 5 digs, 9 set assists, 2.5 block kills), Welch (5 kills, 6 digs, 5 assists, 1 block, 1 ace), Morgan Korf (20 digs, 2 aces) and Kelsey Isaman (3 aces, 3 kills, 1.5 blocks).

Pelican Rapids (4-3-2) will play at Brandon-Evansville on Saturday.

Menahga (2-2) is at Wadena-Deer Creek on Thursday night.  No Menahga stats were reported.
