The Fergus Falls boys’ soccer team went to Sauk Rapids-Rice on Tuesday night and took a huge win, 7-2. “We started the game controlling the ball very well, we had possession in the middle third most of the time,” commented Fergus Falls Head Coach Joel Heikes.

It didn't take long for Jose Rodriguez to find the back of the net only 2 minutes into the game. “We then settled down and our defense did great working with our mids to control the ball,” stated Heikes. “This setup a cross from Shane Zierden to Peyton Marquette who scored 19 minutes into the first half. The minutes later Shane again had a beautiful cross this time to Reno Schierer who scored the third goal of the half.” The Otters went into halftime up 3-0.

Sauk Rapids-Rice came into the second half with some fire, scoring only six minutes in. The Otters did a good job responding as Joey Johnson scored off a corner from Jose Rodriguez 10 minutes into the second half. The Storm responded 3 minutes later to close the gap to 3-2. That would prove to be the end of the scoring for the Storm. Nick Flugstad scored on a nice pass from Jaden Heikes for the first goal of the second half. With 14 minutes left Aiden Shern beat the defense and scored his first goal of this season. With five and a half minutes to go in the game Shane Zierden did some fancy moves and scored the final goal of the game making the final score 7-2.  Zierden finished with 5 points on the night (1 goal, 4 assists). Jayden Manteuful had a great game with 8 saves.

This is the Otters first victory against a Central Lakes Conference team in quite a few years.

Fergus Falls is now 3-2.  They will host Sartell on Thursday and Hillcrest on Saturday afternoon.
