The Fergus Falls girls’ soccer team put six balls in the net on Tuesday night as they defeated Sauk Rapids-Rice 6-4 in a Central Lakes Conference match at the Otter Stadium Field.  “This was an important game for us, coming off a long night in St. Cloud last night,” said Head Coach Ben Jurgens.  “The girls knew it and played hard.”

Olivia Jurgens scored the first goal of the game, assisted by Tyra Skjeret.  After the Storm tied the score, Julia Aguilar converted a corner kick by Skjeret to give the Otters a 2-1 lead.  Sauk Rapids-Rice then tied the game 2-2 before another Skjeret corner kick setup up an Otter goal, this time by Ava Eklund.  The Otters led 3-2 at the half.

The Otters added another goal off a corner kick as Yana Prischmann scored from Skjeret to make it 4-2.  Skjeret then scored from Prischmann for a 5-2 Otter lead.  Sauk-Rapids Rice cut it to 5-3, but Skjeret’s unassisted goal gave the Otters a 6-3 advantage.  The Storm scored the final goal of the night to put the final score at 6-4.

“We were very opportunistic, scoring 3 goals off corner kicks,” noted Jurgens.  “We still have multiple areas to get better at, but the effort and focus were there, which is key.  The girls made some nice in-game adjustments to better our play.  Yana and Tyra really filled the middle well tonight, playing physical soccer and using each other to mice the ball up the field.”

Fergus Falls (6-2) will play at Sartell on Thursday night.
