The West Central Area/Ashby football team took care of business on Friday night as they opened their home season with a convincing 43-7 win over Staples-Motley. Anthony Sykora ran for 123 yards and scored three touchdowns to lead the Knights to the victory.
Sykora got the Knights on the scoreboard early in the first quarter on a 4-yard run. Tyler Stone’s 5-yard TD run and the subsequent two-point conversion gave WCA/Ashby a 14-0 lead. A 55-yard run by Sykora put the score at 20-0 at the end of the opening quarter.
Sykora scored again to start the second quarter on a 20-yard run and the Knights two-point conversion gave them a 28-0 lead. Cole Anderson hauled in a 44-yard scoring toss from Brady Lindquist for a 34-0 lead and a 23-yard field goal made the score 37-0 at the half.
In the third quarter West Central Area/Ashby scored again on a 5-yard run by Cash Nelson, making it 43-0. Staples-Motley closed out the scoring for the night on a 5-yard run. The extra-point kick put the final score at 43-7.
Lindquist completed 4-of-7 passes for 93 points. Anderson caught two passes for 76 yards and Hunter Gruchow had 75 rushing yards on 6 attempts. Isaiah Kreft led the defense with 7 tackles.
