The New York Mills Eagles had everything clicking on Friday night as they jumped out to a 40-0 halftime lead on the way to a 47-6 victory over Walker-Hackensack-Akeley.

“We played really well tonight in all phases of the game,” commented New York Mills Head Coach Matt Radniecki.  “Brayden Ehnert did a great job for us at quarterback and DaShaun Robinson had an outstanding game.  We need to give credit to our defensive and offensive lines as both did their job and really controlled the line of scrimmage for our team.  We made a lot of explosive plays something that is really nice to see.  We had some big runs and big passes and big plays on specials teams.  The punt fake on the first drive was executed as well as you can.

On defense we continued to tackle and play the run well.  Our pass defense needs to shore up some but we did not give up the big play.”

The Eagles scored three first quarter touchdowns, starting with a one yard run by Ehnert, who then kicked the extra point for a 7-0 lead.  Jonah Ruther then connected with Robinson on a 42-yard TD pass to increase the lead to 13-0.  A 4-yard run by Montgomery Briard put the score at 19-0 at the end of the first quarter.

Robinson picked off a pass and returned it 67 yards for another TD early in the second quarter and Ehnert’s PAT kick made it 26-0.  Ehnert then hit Robinson with a 50-yard scoring toss for a 32-0 lead and an Ehnert to Ruther 39-yard TD pass, followed by an Ehnert to Robinson 2-point conversion pass gave the Eagles their 40-0 halftime advantage.

Ruther finished off the scoring for New York Mills with a 4-yard run in the third quarter and Ehnert tacked on the extra point for a 47-0 lead.  Walker-Hackensack-Akeley got in the end zone on a 16 yard run, also in the third quarter to put the final score at 47-6.

“We are getting better and we will need to be at the top of our game next week when we face a very good WDC team that really likes to pass the ball,” said Radniecki.  “A big shout out to the crowd last night.  We had a really good size crowd and the team appreciates the support shown for them.  We hope to see you at Wadena this coming Friday!”
