The Hancock Owls held Brandon-Evansville to just a fourth quarter touchdown on opening night as the Owls won their home opening football game by the score of 44-6.  Hancock scored 22 first quarter points and added 14 more before halftime for a 36-0 advantage going into the locker room. Their final 8 points came in the third quarter.

Davin Rose hooked up on a 74 yard scoring toss with Chase Evink early in the first quarter to give the home team a 6-0 lead.  Rose then connected with Jackson Koehl on a 5 yard TD pass with Evink running in the two-point conversion for a 14-0 Hancock lead.  Koehl then hauled in an 11 yard TD pass from Rose and Rose scored on the two-point conversion run to close out the first quarter scoring with the Owls ahead 22-0.

Rose and Koehl combined for two more scoring plays in the second quarter, the first one covering 53 yards and the second going 14 yards.  They also came together for a successful two-point conversion pass following the first TD of the quarter.  The Owls increased their lead to 36-0 at the half.

Evink’s 6 yard touchdown run and two-point conversion run put the final Hancock points on the board in the third quarter, making the score 44-0.

Brandon-Evansville scored in the fourth quarter when Micah Fuller hit Stephen Hamilton from 6 yards out to put the final score at 44-6.

“We knew that our opening games of this season were going to test us in many ways,” stated B-E Head Coach Dan Johnson. “Hancock was efficient, athletic, and aggressive. They have a complete team. We had too many blocking miscues to give us a chance to extend drives. Defensively, we missed too many tackles in space and chased too many routes out of our coverage zones. The positive takeaway is that everyone continued to work hard throughout the game.  As long as we learn from the film, we will improve these issues. Wheaton/Herman-Norcross will present many of the same issues next week so it will be a good chance to test our team's growth.”

The Chargers settled for 86 yards of total offense with 71 coming by pass.  Hancock finished with 418 yards of offense, 256 through the air and 162 on the ground.

Rose completed 14-of-21 passes for 252 yards and 5 touchdowns.  Koehl had 7 receptions for 115 yards and 4 scores.  Evink was the leading rusher with 62 yards on 14 carries.

For Brandon-Evansville, Fuller ran the ball 14 times for 31 yards and completed 4-of-17 passes for 56 yards and a TD.  Hamilton caught a team high 3 passes for 36 yards.  Solomon Wales and Logan Haburn led the defensive effort with 8 and 7 tackles, respectively.

Hancock has a 7:00pm kickoff at Hillcrest Lutheran Academy in Fergus Falls on Friday, September 9.
