Yellowjackets Shutout Park Rapids in Football Opener

The Perham football team opened their season with a 22-0 shutout victory over the Panthers in Park Rapids on Friday night.  Perham scored 15 second half points to take a 15-0 halftime lead and added a touchdown in the final minute of the game.

Braylon Rach got the Yellowjackets on the board with a 6 yard TD run at 10:28 of the second quarter.  Hudson Hackel added the extra point kick for a 7-0 Perham lead.  Blaiz Schmidt then hit Gage Aanenson with a 62-yard scoring toss with Aanenson running in the two-point conversion for a 15-0 lead with 6:33 left in the half.

Hackel’s one yard run with 54 seconds left in the game and his PAT kick completed the scoring on the night.

Perham finished with 88 yards on the ground and 139 through the air for a total of 227 yards.  The Yellowjackets held the Panthers to a total of 119 yards (57 rushing, 62 passing).

Schmidt completed 8-of-14 passes on the night with Evan Kovash hauling in 5 passes for 39 yards and Aanenson catching two balls for 86 yards.  Hackel led the team in rushing with 77 yards on 15 carries.  Defensively, Sawyer Dilbeck forced a fumble, recovered a fumble and picked off a pass, while recording 6 tackles.  Rach and Kaden Feldt each recovered a fumble and Ben Shumansky was the leading tackler with 11, including a sack.  Jaxon Vetch also registered a sack.

Matt Johanning had a pair of interceptions for the Panthers, Noah Larson recovered two fumbles and Nicholas Graham also had a fumble recovery.

Offensive leaders for Park Rapids Area were Jaydon Walen (6 carries, 32 yards), Noah Morris (8 completions, 21 attempts, 62 yards) and Luke Hartung (3 receptions, 32 yards).

Perham opens their home season with a game against Thief River Falls on Friday, September 9.
