Mason Carrier is headed to the University of Minnesota on a full ride scholarship and his brother Ethan Carrier will be a walk-on at the U of M.  That will happen next fall.  This fall, the brothers are finishing up their high school careers as key members of the Detroit Lakes football team.  On Friday night they led the Lakers to a convincing 54-10 victory over the Fergus Falls Otters.

"They are a very good football team," acknowledged Fergus Falls Head Coach Steve Olson.  "Playing against two Big 10 recruits doesn't happen often.  We aren't panicking over the outcome tonight and we will see improvement with this team week to week."

The Otters had the first possession of the night and moved the ball into field goal position for Jaydon Manteufel, who missed a 37-yard attempt.  It didn't take the Lakers long to capitalize on that defensive stop as Ethan Carrier took the ball 80 yards for a touchdown on the first offensive snap of the night for the home team.   A Nick Buboltz extra point kick made it 7-0.  Carrier added a 25 yard TD run, followed by another Buboltz kick, and Mason Carrier scored from 4 yards out late in the first quarter.  When Buboltz booted the PAT it gave the Lakers a 21-0 advantage.

In the second quarter, Mason Carrier connected with Jake Pavek on a 10 yard scoring toss and Buboltz was successful again on his extra point kick for a 28-0 lead.  The Otters then drove the football 70 yards before settling for a 31-yard field goal by Manteufel.  On the ensuing kickoff, Ethan Carrier went 80 yards for another TD and a 35-3 lead after the PAT kick by Buboltz.  An interception gave the ball back to the Lakers, who finished the half with another Ethan Carrier TD, this one a 4-yard run.  The halftime score was 41-3.

Easton Wall added a 31 yard touchdown run for DL in the third quarter for a 47-3 lead.  Eli Draeger's one yard run, followed by a Manteufel PAT kick gave the Otters 10 points.  DL finished the scoring with a 40 yard run by Tommy Suckert in the fourth quarter and Buboltz hit another PAT to end the game with a 54-10 score.

Ethan Carrier finished with 123 yards rushing on 8 carries and Mason Carrier was 6-for-7 throwing the football for 93 yards.  Detroit Lakes had 377 total yards with 284 coming on the ground.

Griffin Babolian led the Otters with 73 rushing yards on 12 carries.  He also caught one pass for 55 yards.  Jackson Zender-Severson had two receptions for 60 yards.

Fergus Falls will host Park Rapids Area next Friday in their home opener, while Detroit Lakes travels to East Grand Forks.
