New York Mills was in control throughout the game on Thursday night as they dominated all aspects of play in a 70-6 trouncing of Red Lake.  The Eagles scored 32 first quarter points and added 22 second quarter points to take a 54-0 halftime lead.  They scored 8 points in each of the final two quarters and allowed 6 points to Red Lake in the fourth quarter.

“A great way to start for us,” said New York Mills Head Coach Matt Radniecki.  “The guys played well.  We knew what we wanted to do and got it done early.  This game allowed us to play everyone from a team standpoint and get valuable time for our young guys.  We did some nice things and kept working to get better and I was happy with that.  I am really proud of how we came off the bus ready to play and got our job done.  We have had a really good three weeks and we look forward to our home opener with Walker on Friday in Mills.”

Jonah Ruther got the scoring started on a 50-yard run and Brayden Ehnert added the extra point kick for a 7-0 lead.  Montgomery Briard scored on a 2-yard run and Ehnert was accurate once again on the PAT kick for a 14-0 lead.  DaShaun Robinson hauled in a 47 yard pass from Ehnert to push the score to 20-0 and Ruther finished the first quarter scoring with a pair of TD runs (36, 49) for a 32-0 Eagles lead.

In the second quarter, a 52 yard run by Braxton Ehnert and a two-point pass from Ehnert to Cole Wilson extended the lead to 40-0 and a 2 yard run by Joseph Mann, followed by an Ehnert to Wilson two-point pass made it 48-0.  Braxton Ehnert then ran 28 yards for the eighth TD of the night and the Eagles were ahead 54-0 at the half.

Mann made it 62-0 with a third quarter TD run of 18 yards and a two-point conversion run.  In the fourth quarter it was Elijah Menze’s turn to find the end zone on an 8 yard run and a 2 point conversion run, giving the Eagles a 70-0 lead.

Red Lake scored on a 23-yard pass for the final touchdown of the game.
