Bertha Hewitt Runs Strong at First Meet of the Year

The 2022 Bertha-Hewitt Cross country season had a challenging start at the 57th annual Staples -Motley Central Minnesota River Run.  The Boys race featured some of the top teams in section 6A and a top contender in section 8A as well as some AA schools.  The Bears ran well with an average time of 19 minutes even. 

Park Rapids from Section 8A easily won the meet scoring only 28 points and placing 5 guys in the top 10.   Section 6A favorite Staples-Motley finished second followed by AA Fergus Falls and Bertha-Hewitt placed 4th with a score of 79 easily beating Sauk Centre who was fifth with 155 points. 

Freshman Brady Rach won the race with a time of 17:15.97 seconds.  Zane Guderjahn was the next highest place for the Bears finishing 15th with a time of 19:00.57.  Running 3rd for the Bears was Zach Baumgartner followed by Preston Miller, Henry Lockwood, Titus Eckel and Gunnar Barthel.  

The Girls event also featured strong competition with 18 teams competing.   The Bears had 3 runners in the race with 8th grader Kendra Miller finishing 6th with a time of 21.18.96.  Junior Arei Bryniarski and Sophomore Ella Banister finished 48th and 49th running slight over 26 minutes. 

“It was good to get out and compete as our kids were eager to get the season started,” said Head Coach Alan Hanson. “Our kids are focused and have been training hard and it showed in the results we had.”

The Bears travel to Wadena next Tuesday and the first race starts at 4:30pm.
