“It was a great night for Border West Cross Country,” exclaimed Head Coach Brittany Erickson of the Buccaneers. “I was very pleased with everyone's effort and time. The Morris course has a huge hill and I thought our runners conquered it despite not doing much hill work. I saw a lot of grit in not losing runners in front of them which led to some spectacular finishes. They had someone to chase. Our JH runners were extremely successful and it's nice to get a race under their belts. Both Julia Schmidt and Joe Arens battled for the 5th place spot for most of the race with another runner and beat them out. Derek Lupkes made a tactical move right before the hill by passing a pack of runners with less than a mile left which pushed him to the 9th place spot. I did some comparisons from last year's Morris meet to this year and almost all of our past runners had faster splits.”
