Fergus Falls placed third out of eleven teams at The Vintage in Staples as they began the 2022 Boys’ Cross Country Season.  Park Rapids Area won the team title and the host Staples-Motley Cardinals were runners-up.  The top individual performances by Otter runners came from Jaden Miller, Matthew Tuel and Michael Schmidt, who finished 11, 12 and 13, respectively.

“Park Rapids and Staples-Motley are strong teams with strong post season chances this year,” commented Fergus Falls Head Coach Derek Meyer.  “They came in with a preseason Class A state ranking of number 2 and number 3, behind top-ranked Perham.  It was a great chance for us to get a look at a top caliber team.”

Rounding out the scoring for Fergus Falls were Tommy Erickson in 17th place and Henry Greenagel in 22nd place.

“The results were mixed emotions on how each of the boys ran,” noted Meyer.  “They all have high expectations for themselves this season.  All of the boys are in a spot of improvement from last season from what they ran today.  They either ran a lifetime best in this race or ran better than what they did last year at this point.”

On the junior high side, the Otters placed first overall with a strong core of boys leading the way.  Nolan Felstul led with a third place finish.  He was followed by Kadyn Zender in fourth place, Jaden Kwapinski in sixth place, Ethan Strande in seventh place and Samuel Rasmussen in tenth place.
