The Fergus Falls boys’ soccer team recorded a 2-0 varsity win over Crookston on Monday night at the Otter Stadium Field.  “It was a very windy evening and we started playing into the wind, but we fought through,” said Head Coach Joel Heikes.

At about the twenty minute mark Kasey Eggen took control of the ball and dribbled it up past midfield and hit Shane Zierden with a beautiful through ball.  Shane finished nicely to make the score 1-0.

“Our defense did a great job and we kept the ball in our offensive end most of the night,” said Heikes.  “We had many scoring opportunities but just could not quite find the back of the net again in the first half.”

At the fifteen minute mark of the second half, Shane Zierden threw the ball into Jose Rodriguez who settled it and put a great shot on net, but a Crookston defenseman intentionally hit the ball with his hand to stop the scoring opportunity.  This resulted in the Crookston player earning a red card and Jose earned a penalty kick which he capitalized on, making the score 2-0.

“We did not score again, but had some very nice looks and pretty much controlled the ball the rest of the game,” stated Coach Heikes.  “Jayden Manteufel had a great night in net, earning the shutout.”

The Fergus Falls JV team lost 5-2.  Braden Albert scored both of the goals for the Otter JV team.
