Otter Girls Place Second in Cross Country Meet at The Vintage

The Fergus Falls girls’ opened the cross country season at The Vintage in Staples on Monday.  The varsity girls’ placed third out of 9 teams and were led individually by a strong second place finish from Cassie Wellman.  The top five runners included Naomi Dummer, Sarah Grotberg, Julia Anderson and Becca SchindlerHannah Scharnberg, Sonja Lahti and Jenna Thorson rounded out the team.

“These girls have put in a lot of summer mileage and hard work into this first race of the season,” said Head Coach Niki Welde.  “The first race of the year can be a measuring tool for the season. We were very pleased with the results we saw.”

The Middle School girls placed third out of four teams, missing second place by one point.  Violet McConn was the overall winner.  Alana Higbee also took home a place in the top ten, earning her a spot on the medal stand.

“I am very excited about this group of girls,” said Welde.  “Today was a first race for many of them, and they stepped up to the challenge.  Violet McConn’s overall win was a real indication of how her season is going to progress.”
