Joel Meyer begins his second year as Head Coach of the Rothsay football team, with assistance from Chris Heier and Kyle Blanchard.  The Tigers lost key middle linebacker and quarterback Tanner Heier, receiving threat and defensive lineman Chris Carillo, and role players Jett Kulack and Sam Danielson to graduation, however, have several returning starters from that squad.

“With me being a first year head coach last year, it was great to see the athletes grow in the new system,” stated Coach Meyer.  “We were able to be competitive in most of our games.”

Returning letter winners included seniors Mason Kadel (DE/OL), Karter Jensen (LB/QB), and Wylie Brenden (DL/OL), juniors Peyton Kadel (DE/OL/RB), Carson Weiers (DB/RB), Conrad Stockinger (DL/OL), Jaden Boots (LB/OL/RB) and Matthew Danielson (DB/RB/WR), and freshman Karson Jensen (DB/RB/WR).

“Our biggest strengths on offense lies with our running backs, wide receivers and quarterback, due to the fact that they are all returning starters,” said Meyer.  “I think we will do some special things with our talented backfield.  Our strengths on defense will be up front.  Our defensive line is one of the toughest we have ever had.”

Senior Logan Blummer (DB/RB), junior Mark Carrillo (DL/OL), sophomores Preston Curtis (DB/QB/RB), Josh Honer (OL/DL), Landon Messerschmidt and Hunter Marquardt (OL/DL/LB) and freshmen Easton Kort (DL/OL), Brennan Kort (DB/LB/RB/QB), Tristan Hofer (DL/OL) and Ethan Turchin (DL/OL) are expected to step into contributing roles at the varsity level.

“Our weaknesses on offense will be making sure we really tighten up on the line of scrimmage and manage our mistakes,” said Coach Meyer.  “On defense it is filling a big hole at middle linebacker.  We will be looking for some of our upperclassmen to fill that crucial void.”

Coach Meyer says Wheaton/Herman-Norcross, Verndale and Brandon-Evansville are the top teams in Section 4 9-Man.
