Canes Win Region 16C Title, Stanislawski Named Region MVP

The Fergus Falls Hurricanes claimed the Region 16C Amateur Baseball Championship on Saturday with an 11-0 win over the Urbank Bombers at Hegg Memorial Field in Kensington.  Fergus Falls put six runs on the board in the second inning, added one in the fourth and finished the scoring with 4 in the fifth.  Darin Stanislawski fired a 7 inning no-hitter, striking out 10 and walking 2.

Thomas Bosek and Carter Thielke started the second by being hit by pitched balls.  Austin Stanislawski then loaded the bases with a single.  Bosek scored on a wild pitch and Owen Krueger reached on an error, filling the bases again.  A Sean McGuire single scored two runs to make it 3-0.  Alex Hensch reached on a fielders’ choice, a Tosten Mann double plated two runs and a single by Alex Hexum brought Mann home.

With one out in the fourth, Darin Stanislawski doubled.  He scored on a two out double by Thielke.

In the fifth, Krueger led off with a base hit and went to third on McGuire’s double.  A walk to Hensch loaded the bases and Mann delivered a grand slam to close out the scoring.

Mann (2-4, 2B, HR, 6RBI, 2R), McGuire (2-4, 2B, 2RBI, R) and Thielke (2-3, 2B, SB, RBI, R) led the offensive attack as the Canes had 5 extra base hits in the game.

“Mann had his second 6 RBI game of the tournament and our pitchers continued to work ahead, throw strikes and avoid the big inning,” noted Head Coach Davy Johnson of the Canes.  “We will receive a first round by in the State Tournament.  Urbank will play next weekend with the date and opponent to be determined.”

Stanislawski was named the Region 16C MVP.  Darin pitched 20 innings, recorded 28 strikeouts, walked three batters, allowed 7 hits and did not give up a run.  He went 2-0 with 1 save.  He also batted .438 (7-16) with 2 doubles, a home run, 4 runs batted in and 3 runs scored.

The Canes drafted pitchers Shane Trattles from Sauk Centre, Carter Stockert from Alexandria and Jack Hiedeman from Breckenridge.

Urbank drafted Dylan Haskamp from Sauk Centre, Mitch Porter from Breckenridge and Ky Zimmel from Osakis.

In other Region 16C action: On Friday night in Carlos Urbank eliminated Alexandria 9-4 and on Saturday in Kensington, Urbank scored 3 runs in the top of the eighth inning to eliminate Sauk Centre, 4-2.
