Fergus Falls American Legion Post 30 traveled to Moorhead on Wednesday to open District Tournament play against the number two seed, Alexandria.  Alexandria defeated Post 30 by the score of 12-2.  Fergus Falls will play in an elimination game at 11:00am Thursday versus East Grand Forks.

Carter Thielke started on the mound and went 1 2/3 innings before giving way to Owen Krueger

Post 30 scored both of their runs in the top of the first inning with Isaac Johnson leading off with a single, advancing to second on an error and scoring on a sharp single by Thielke.  A bases loaded double play ball scored the second run.

Alexandria answered with 3 runs in the bottom of the first via two Post 30 errors and two hits.  They broke the game open with nine runs crossing the plate in the second inning with the help of two walks and three Fergus Falls errors.

Post 30 threatened in the third and fifth innings but couldn’t buy the big hit to get back in the game.

Leading hitters were Thielke (2-3, RBI), Krueger (1-2) and Ethan Gronwold (1-2).

“Carter threw the ball much better than his stat line would indicate,” commented Fergus Falls Head Coach Trevor Larson.  “Alexandria is a good team and when you give them extra outs each inning the mountain becomes much taller to climb.  Unfortunately, our defense was not very good today.  Too many balls fell that need to be caught.  If we want to have any chance at battling back we need to clean things up defensively and help out our pitchers.”
