Fergus Falls American Legion Post 30 wrapped up their tournament play in Wahpeton with a 7-5 loss to Detroit Lakes in the third place game.  Carston Fronning (6IP, 7H, 7R, 4ER, 3BB, 1K) started on the mound and threw the ball much better than his stat line would indicate.

“Carston threw the ball well today, well enough to win,” said Fergus Falls Head Coach Trevor Larson. “He did a good job of working ahead in counts and throwing strike one. Fronning has good composure on the mound and has a really bright future. Although we made some poor plays in the third inning to spot D.L some runs, we did make some nice plays including Owen Krueger throwing a runner out at home, Ben Swanson making numerous great picks at first base, and Isaac Johnson had a really good weekend at third base.”

Leading hitters for Post 30 were Krueger (1-2, 2BB), Swanson (1-3, RBI), Fronning (1-2, RBI) and Brandon Brown (1-2, 2R).

Post 30 jumped out to a 2-0 lead after two-and-a-half innings, but sloppy defensive play allowed DL to score three runs off two errors.  “Detroit Lakes was aggressive on the base paths, and we did not respond to it quickly enough,” noted Coach Larson.  “We threatened late in the game with the bases loaded and nobody out, but we couldn’t find that big hit to string some things together.”

After an off day Monday Post 30 is back at it Tuesday before hosting their home opener on Wednesday, June 15 against Casselton, ND.  It is a double header with the first game starting at 5:00pm at American Legion Field at DeLagoon Park in Fergus Falls.
