Fergus Falls American Legion Post 30 took on defending North Dakota Legion State champs, Wahpeton Post 20 on Saturday evening with the host team winning 10-2.

Carter Thielke (5IP, 8H, 9R, 7ER, 3BB, 2K) started on the mound and went the first 5 innings and Andrew Johnson finished up on the mound in the sixth inning.  Leading hitters for Post 30 were Thielke (1-2, 2BB), Will Gronwold (1-2), Colin Becker (1-2, BB) and Ben Swanson (1-2, 2BB).

Post 30 struck first when Thielke led off the top of the first by drawing a walk.  He moved to second on a single by Swanson and came around to score on a ground out by Johnson.  Post 30 threatened a few more times in the middle innings, but couldn’t find the big hit to cash in on opportunities.  Wahpeton, on the other hand, seemed to find a way to get those big hits with two outs to produce runs.

“Give Wahpeton credit, they are very well coached and play very well together,” commented Fergus Falls Head Coach Trevor Larson.  “Their lineup is very solid 1-through-9 and there are no easy outs.  Today we competed well and made some nice plays defensively, but we see the next steps we need to take to elevate our game to the next level.”

Post 30 takes on Detroit Lakes at 1:00pm Sunday in the third place game of the Wahpeton Tournament.
