The M State golf team turned in a final round score of 326, finishing fifth as a team out of ten teams with a 4-day total of 1317.  It marked the tenth consecutive year that the Spartans have finished in the top 5 at the NJCAA Division III National Championship Tournament in Chautauqua, New York.  Grant Inniger (79-76-83-79=317) placed fourteenth and Hunter Burnside (78-77-82-82=319) tied for fifteenth, both earning All-American Honorable Mention honors.

“Today’s round started off very slowly, but we hung in there and played some very good golf throughout the day to put up a quality team score,” stated M State Head Coach Jason Retzlaff.  “A top five finish is a great outcome for this team and a goal we had coming into the tournament, especially with the late start we had to playing golf this spring.  We had a blast this week competing and spending time together as a team.  It was a tremendous way to cap off another great season with an outstanding group of young men.”

Sandhills CC won the team title with a score of 1173.  Georgia Military College was second at 1263, DuPage CC took third with a 1267 total and fourth place went to Niagara County CC with a score of 1269.  Medalist honors went to Andreas Huber of Sandhills CC with a 4-day total of 289, including an even par round of 72 on Friday.

“Big congrats to Grant Inniger and Hunter Burnside,” added Coach Retzlaff.  “Both achieved the rare feat of earning All-American honors in back to back seasons.  They are both high character individuals who work very hard at their golf games.  It was great to see them get rewarded today.”
