M State shot a third round score of 341, keeping them in fifth place out of ten teams at the NJCAA Division III National Golf Tournament in Chautauqua, New York, with a 3-day total of 991.  Defending champion Sandhills CC is in control of the team competition with a 3-day total of 881 (295-293-293).

“It was a struggle today for the Spartans as we labored to get anything going,” commented Head coach Jason Retzlaff.  “It wasn’t for a lack of effort as the guys grinded as hard as they could.  We can’t wait to get back at it for the final round tomorrow with an opportunity for All-American honors and a top 5 team finish.”

Hunter Burnside led the Spartans with an 82 and Grant Inniger shot an 87.  Burnside is currently in 13th place individually and Inniger is 15th.  The top 18 earn All-American honors.  Andreas Huber of Sandhills CC opened up a 4 shot lead in the individual competition with an even par round of 72.  There was a two hour weather delay before the round started.  The fourth and final round is on Friday with the Spartans going off the tee at 9am Eastern time.
