The Fergus Falls baseball team advanced to the double elimination round of the Section 8AA Tournament with an 11-0 five-inning victory over Ottertail Central on Wednesday at American Legion Field at DeLagoon Park.  They will play DGF at 2:30pm Thursday at Matt’s Field in Perham.

The Otters did all their damage in 3 innings and three pitchers combined to shutout the Bulldogs.

“All but one starter got a hit tonight,” said Fergus Falls Head Coach Kevin Pearson.  “Carter Thielke (3IP, 1H, 0R, 7K, 0BB) did what he had to do on the mound to start the game, and we swung the bats pretty well tonight.  Hopefully this momentum carries over to tomorrow.”

Hitting leaders for the Otters were Ethan Gronwold (3-3, 2RBI, R), Isaac Johnson (2-2, BB, 2R), Thielke (2-3, 3B, RBI, R, 2SB), Carston Fronning (2-3, 2B, RBI, 2R), Andrew Johnson (2-3, 2R) and Cole Zierden (1-3, 2B, 3RBI, R, SB).  Owen Krueger and Will Gronwold each drove in a run with a base hit.

Gavin Pausch had the lone OTC hit in the game, an infield single to start the game.  He also stole a base.

“Of course we wanted to move on to the next round of the Section Tournament and try to make a state run, but I am incredibly proud of our young team,” said OTC Head Coach Ryan Hendrickson.  “We have some scrappy players and we improved immensely this year.  We have a lot of good baseball to look forward to here in the near future.  We have a good base of pitching, catching and defense and we will work hard offensively this summer and be a team to reckon with next year.”
