The Alexandria girls’ golf team participated in the first of two rounds of the Section 8AAA golf tournament on Tuesday at Rich Springs Golf Club.  ‘Playing conditions were challenging for all the players as the course was soft, the rough was long, and the wind was blowing at 20 miles per hour,” reported Head Coach Tim Zupfer of the lady Cards.  “As a result, scores were higher than we expected.”

Brainerd has the first round lead after shooting a team score of 331, seven strokes ahead of Alexandria’s 338.  Detroit Lakes also came in with a 338, followed by Becker 362, Buffalo 374, Moorhead 376, Sartell 390, Bemidji 393, St. Cloud 395, Willmar 402, Sauk Rapids-Rice 466 and Rocori 483.

Hannah Boraas led Alexandria with an 83, finishing in fifth place.  Cora Larson is sixth after firing an 84 and Lauren Rebrovich is in a tie for seventh place with her 85.  Aisling O’Connor’s 86 puts her in a tie for tenth place.  Rachel Bowen and Ellie Sticha rounded out the team scoring with rounds of 95 and 103, respectively.

On Wednesday the top six teams and 12 more individuals return for the second day of play.  “The Cardinals look to play with a little more confidence on day two,” said Coach Zupfer.  “I know the players will give it their best effort and will compete for 18 more holes.”
