Otters Fall to Willmar 6-4, but Top Crookston 14-2 in Home Double Header

Fergus Falls came up short in a Monday afternoon contest with the Willmar Cardinals, losing the game 6-4, but then rallied for a 14-2 win over the Crookston Pirates in their second game of the day. 

Three Fergus Falls errors led to 3 unearned runs in the game against Willmar.  Each team collected 8 hits.  Willmar scored 4 runs in the third and single runs in the fourth and fifth.  The Otters had one run in the third, one in the fifth and two in the seventh.

Cole Zierden (3IP, 3H, 4R, 1ER, 2BB, 3K), Owen Krueger (2IP, 3H, 2R, 2ER, 2BB, 3K) and William Gronwold (2IP, 2H, 1BB, 2K) all saw action on the mound for the Otters.  Offensive leaders were Zierden (2-4, 2B, R, SB), Carter Thielke (2-3, 2B, HR, RBI, 2R, BB) and Andrew Johnson (1-1, 2B, 2RBI).

Fergus Falls put 8 runs on the board in the first inning against Crookston and never looked back, ending the game by the mercy rule in five innings.  Zierden (4-4, 3RBI, R, SB), Andrew Johnson (2-2, 3RBI, R), Leighton Buckmeier (2-2, 2RBI, 2R), Isaac Johnson (2-3, 2B, 2RBI, 2R) and Carston Fronning (1-2, 2B, RBI, 2R, BB) were the top hitters for the Otters.  Thielke, Ben Swanson and Ethan Gronwold each had one hit in 3 at bats, driving in a run and scoring a run.  Owen Krueger was 1-for-3 with 2 runs scored.  Thielke (5IP, 6H, 2R, 1ER, 1BB, 10K) was the winning pitcher.
