Perham Records Two Wins on Saturday

Perham won a pair of baseball games on Saturday, beating Watertown-Mayer 8-7 and Wadena-Deer Creek 7-2.

Perham 8, Watertown-Mayer 7 (8 Innings)

The Perham baseball team took Saturday’s game against Watertown-Mayer in dramatic fashion, with an 8-7 walk-off victory.  The Yellowjackets trailed 7-6 in the bottom of the eighth inning when Chas Melvin singled in the tying and winning runs.

Ashton Detloff (3IP, 3H, 1ER, 4K, 2BB) earned the win on the mound.  Leading hitters for the Yellowjackets were Rian Solberg (2-4, 2RBI), Austin Aanenson (2-4, 2R), Logan Pulju (1-4, 2B, 2RBI) and Melvin (1-5, 2RBI, R).

Ben Trucke had a big day at the plate for Watertown-Mayer, belting two home runs as he went 3-for-3 at the plate.  He knocked in 4 runs and scored two.  Trucke also had a double.  Tyler Thuston was 2-for-2 with a single and a double.

Perham 7, Wadena-Deeer Creek 2

Perham posted a 7-2 victory over Wadena-Deer Creek in a high school baseball game on Saturday.  The game was tied 2-2 in the top of the fifth when Chas Melvin singled to drive in the go-ahead run.  Rian Solberg (2-4) drove in six run on a two-run homer in the fourth and a grand slam home run in the fifth.

Melvin (4IP, 4H, 2R, 2K) was the winning pitcher and Austin Aanenson (3IP, 1H, 5K, 1BB) earned the save.  Melvin (2-4, RBI, 2R) joined Solberg with a muli-hit performance.

Josh Dykhoff (7IP, 7R, 9H, 7K, 1BB) took the loss for the Wolverines.  Payton Rondestvedt (2-3, RBI, R) led the Wolverines at the plate.
