Alexandria beat Brainerd twice in a Central Lakes Conference baseball double header on Thursday, winning 3-2 and 10-2.

The Cardinals were able to come away with a tight victory in game one.  In the bottom of the 5th, the Cards were able to tie the game and take the lead on a perfectly executed squeeze bunt by Nate Hammerback, scoring Spencer Schmidt from third.  That final run was enough as the defense and pitching kept the Warriors off the board the rest of the game.

JD Hennen started the game going 5 innings allowing 2 earned runs on 5 hits.  He struck out 5 and walked 4.  Jaxon Schoenrock relieved Hennen, picking up the win.  Schoenrock finished the final 2 innings allowing 0 hits, 0 walks, and struck out 4.

Hitting was led by Brock Lerfald, Caleb Runge, and Lake Hagen who each had two hits apiece.   Lerfald had a double in the game, and Hagen’s 2 hits were doubles as well.

The Cards were able to cap the night off with another victory against the Warriors as the bats exploded for 14 hits and Parker Jendro having another solid start.

Jendro continues to pitch well going 6 innings allowing just 1 earned run while scattering 3 hits.  He walked just 1 Warrior batter and struck out 4.   Brock Lerfald stepped on the mound for the first time this season pitching the final frame of the game.  Lerfald faced just three batters, striking out 1.

The Cards hit the ball all over the park last night.  Lake Hagen and Caleb Runge combined for 7 hits in the 9 at bats as they had recorded 4 doubles and a triple.   Runge was 4 for 4 at the plate with a walk while Hagen was 3 for 5.  The duo also combined for 7 RBI.  Many other Cards added to the hit column last night with Wyatt Mohr, Spencer Schmidt, and Augie Gulbrandson each collecting their first varsity hits.   JD Hennen, Brock Lerfald, Grady Anderson, and Jaxon Schoenrock each collected a hit as well.

Short turn around in a busy week as the Cards load the bus and head to Bemidji for a tough double header against the Lumberjacks Friday afternoon.   Those two games will top off a 5 game week.
