Fergus Falls and Brainerd split a Central Lakes Conference baseball double header on Tuesday with the Warriors winning game one 10-0, out-hitting the Otters 13-1, and Fergus Falls taking game two, 10-1, collecting 13 hits to the Warriors 1.

Colin Becker had the only Fergus Falls hit in the first game and starting pitcher Bo Bring (3.2IP, 10R, 3ER, 10H, 3BB, 1K) was hurt by poor defense behind him.  Brainerd scored twice in the first inning and eight times in the second to take the early 10-0 lead.

“I was proud of the way Bo pitched today,” commented Fergus Falls Head Coach Kevin Pearson.  “He did a nice job of attacking the strike zone.  Brainerd put a lot of balls in play but we didn’t make the defensive plays in the field.”

Carter Thielke (5IP, 1R, 1H, 3BB, 6K) turned in a gem of a pitching performance in game two and the Otter bats were productive, led by 3 hits apiece from Thielke and Ethan Gronwold.  Gronwold and Owen Krueger each drove in two runs.  Cole Zierden and Isaac Johnson each had two hits.  Carston Fronning (2IP, 0R, 0H, 3K) made his varsity debut in relief of Thielke.

“Both of our pitcher did an outstanding job and in game two we made the plays behind them,” noted Coach Pearson.  “It was fun to see Carston, Griffin Babolian and Brandon Brown make their first varsity appearances.  Griffin had a double and played right field for us and Brandon started at catcher.  It was a beautiful day for baseball and we are starting to see improvement now that we have been able to get outside consistently.”

Fergus Falls will host St. Cloud at 5:00pm Thursday.
