Brandon-Evansville opened their softball season on Tuesday with an 11-2 loss at Upsala.  Sydney Schaefer (2-3, 2R), Kylee Dingwall (1-3) and Kendra Klimek (2-3, 2B) led the Chargers at the plate.

“It was nice to finally be able to get to play ball tonight after a long April, even though this one didn’t end the way we would like,” commented B-E Head Coach Kasi Sieling.  “We saw some really good things from this young team and I’m happy with the way they played.  Haddy Baune (4IP, 5H, 7R, 5ER, 2BB, 0K) got her first varsity pitching innings tonight and did a nice job of throwing strikes and letting her defense work behind her.  Maddie Stich did a solid job behind the plate in her varsity debut.  This was a close game going into the sixth inning, but we had some defensive miscues that Upsala took advantage of.”

A six-run sixth inning broke the game open.  Upsala capitalized on 9 walks and 4 errors in the game.

“Overall, we did some very good things working out of innings and leaving runners on base, and we have some things to improve on as we hit the road running this season,” said Coach Sieling.  “We will learn from this game and put it behind us as we focus on our conference and home opener Wednesday against Wheaton/Herman-Norcross.”
