The Fergus Falls softball team gained a road split with Alexandria on Thursday, falling 17-7 in the opener and winning the nightcap, 10-9.

Fergus Falls had 12 hits in the first game with Gabby Brimhall, Rylynn Krein and Madilyn Budke each collecting three hits.

Jordan O’Kane pitched Alexandria to victory, allowing eight hits and four runs over three innings, striking out four and walking zero.  Lauren Hornstein threw two innings of relief.  Peyton Goetsch went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the Cardinals offensive attack.

Game two was tied 9-9 with the Otters batting in the bottom of the sixth when an error allowed the winning run to cross the plate.  Rylynn Krein delivered a two-run single in the second inning and was the winning pitcher, striking out eight batters and giving up nine runs on two hits in her seven innings in the circle.  Brimhall and Isabella Abrahams each had 3 hits to pace the Otters, who had 15 hits in the game.

“We’ll take the split, but defensively we have got to play clean,” said Fergus Falls Head Coach Lisa Truax.  “Errors and miscues are eating us alive and apparent in our first game and one inning of our second game.  The pitching staff did their job, we need to defend better.  I liked out approach at the plate, making solid contact and adjusting to the wave of pitchers we faced.  It’s day four outside for us and our goal is to keep moving forward, one game at a time.  We’ll get there, but we need to do it fast!  The end of the second game, I don’t think I’ve experienced a louder game in my life.  It was intense, just like it should be!”
