Brandon-Evansville and Ortonville split their baseball double header on Thursday with the Trojans winning 1-0 and the Chargers posting a 7-5 victory.

The Chargers fell behind 1-0 early in the game and couldn’t come up with the tying or go ahead runs.  Ortonville scored their run in the first inning on a single by Carter Powell.  Josh Mueller (7KP, 0R, 3H, 9K, 1BB) was outstanding on the mound.  Jayden Hoidahl (6IP, 4H, 1R, 1K) was almost as impressive.  Neither team committed an error in the game.  “Defensively, we played a great game, but, unfortunately we wasted a fantastic pitching performance by Jayden who only gave up one run in six solid innings on the mound.  We just couldn’t get a timely hit when we got runners in scoring position.”

Dezmond White got the win for B-E in the second game.  The righthander lasted four innings, allowing six hits and four runs, while striking out two.  Brady Perleberg threw three innings in relief and earned the save for the Chargers.  Carter Brown took the loss for Ortonville. He went two-and-two-thirds innings, allowing six runs on three hits and striking out three. Riley Perleberg led B-E with hits in three at bats, including a double.

Hunter Merritt and Adam Strei were used as pinch-hitters as Ortonville had 11 hits in the game.  “It was nice to see us be able to bounce back in Game 2 after a tough 1-0 loss,” said Hendrickson.  “I felt both Dezmond White and Brady Perleberg pitched well and stayed focused through some adversity.  Offensively, we hit the ball better than we did in the first game, but still missed quite a few opportunities to break the game open.  Give credit to Ortonville for battling back and after falling behind early.”

B-E (4-3) will host West Central Area in a non-conference double header on Monday in Evansville.
