Brainerd won their home Girls Track and Field Invitational on Tuesday with 208.5 points.  Pequot Lakes was second with 71.5, followed by Bemidji 59.5, Fergus Falls 56.5 and Greenway/Nashwauk/Keewatin 31.

Ella Starzl had an excellent night for the Otters, winning the long jump with a PR and placing in the high jump and in both the 4x100 and 4x200 relays.  Sarah Grotberg won the 3200, Megan Tossett had an all-time best in the triple jump taking second place, Ainsley Hansen placed fifth in the long jump, Alexis Wellman ran a personal best in the 400 and Mayah Fear competed in her first pole vault event, placing with a vault of 6-6.  Sarah Nordlund had a busy and successful night, scoring for the Otters in the Triple Jump, High Jump and 100 Hurdles and Olivia Swanson scored in the 800 with an excellent finish.

“Ella has been a strong leader on the team this year and she showed it tonight,” commented Head Coach Niki Welde of the Otters.  “Sarah Grotberg ran a great race with no real pressure around her.  If you don’t have someone to race, you really have to look within and focus on every lap.  She is a very thoughtful runner.  Megan really put together her Triple Jump game with a 3-foot season best and a 2-foot all-time best.  It is fun when an athlete puts a technical event like that together.  We had Ainsley rest out in the High Jump tonight, looking ahead to an opportunity to compete this Friday at the Hamline Elite Meet in St. Paul.  The weather was not complimentary to competing outdoors in track and field with 30 degree tempts, but our kids all went in with great attitudes and showed their resilience.”
