The West Central Area Girls Track and Field team opened their season at the Benson Invitational, placing fourth with 85 points. Minnewaska Area won the event with 229 and Morris Area was second with 154. Lexi Bright had a fantastic outing, winning the mile, placing second in the 800 and taking third in the long jump.
“I’m always amazed when I see our kids compete at meets,” said WCA Head Coach Dave Schleicher. “We train in the gym, the parking lot and back roads for the most part in the spring. The girls fourth place finish didn’t surprise me. We have some great athletes and I feel they will be in the mix come conference time. I was pleased with the overall performance and for the first meet this late in April I feel like we were kind of behind on things, but as usual, the kids went out and competed hard.”
