The Fergus Falls boys’ track and field team traveled to Cold Spring on Thursday to compete in the Ed Babcock Invitational, hosted by Rocori High School.  The meet was originally scheduled for Tuesday, April 19, but was postponed due to inclement weather.  “The weather Thursday was reasonable by comparison to what we have had recently,” said Head Coach Derek Meyer of the Otters.  “The field of athletes was quite large with 8 teams and 900 registered athletes.”

Meyer continued, “As a team, we had another outstanding day of performances and placing.  Overall, we placed second behind a strong Willmar program.  It was also great to see some different teams that are in our section, such as Pequot Lakes and the host ream, Rocori.”

Top performances came from Keisen Wick with third place finishes in both the 100 and 200 meter dash events, Jaden Miller with a third place finish in in the 1600 meter run (4:45.54 PR) and the 4x100 meter relay team of Jordan Lee, Keisen Wick, Owen Babolian and Isaac Job with a second place.

In the high jump, Luke Newman and Henry Bethel placed one and two with Bethel jumping his season best.  “Both guys had great looks at their next heights and will be eager to get another chance next week,” said Meyer.

In the pole vault, Jordan Lee and Landon Thacker placed first and third, with Thacker jumping a season best height.  Shane Zierden and Darius Locket with second and third, respectively, in the triple jump, and Alex Jensen won the shot put.

“The team did an awesome job,” said Coach Meyer.  “Lots of guys stepped up to fill in spots, running and racing at a high level. Attitudes and outlook on the day were up in spirit.  Our next competition is Tuesday, April 26 in Brainerd.

Willmar won the event with 140.83 points and the Otters were second with 115.50 points.  They were followed by Park Rapids Area with 101.11, Rocori 89.11, Sauk Rapids-Rice 75.11, Pequot Lakes 71.61, Detroit Lakes 59.61 and St. Cloud Apollo 48.
