The M State baseball team dropped a pair of 3-1 decisions to the St. John’s JV team on Thursday.

Both teams received strong pitching performances in the opener with Hunter Ault earning the victory (1IP, 2H, 0R, 2K, 0BB). Will Fazio started the game and went two innings.  Jordon Huwe, Cade Marsolek and Alex Gwost all put in work in relief out of the bullpen with Gwost recording the last three outs to earn the save.

Wyatt Halvorson (5IP, 6H, 2R, 1BB 5K) took the loss for the Spartans.  Christian Norby (1-4, 2B, RBI, R), Mike Short (1-2, 2B, RBI, BB), Noah Aufdengarten (1-3, 2B), Dylan Gertken (2-3) and Daniel Buendorf (1-3, RBI) were the hitting leaders for M State.

In the second game the Spartans fell behind early and couldn’t come back against the Johnnies strong pitching.  A two-run single off the bat of Ryan Janzen in the second inning put the Johnnies in front.  Isaac Harrill (1IP, 0H, 0R, 2K, 0BB) was the winning pitcher.  St. John’s hurlers recorded 8 strikeouts.

Brock Depute (5IP, 5H, 3R, 0ER, 7K) took the loss in game two for M State.  Gertken, Short, Buendorf and Cal Schmitz each had a single for the four Spartan hits.
