Ottertail Central opened the baseball season by playing two games at Joe Faber Field in St. Cloud on Tuesday.  The Bulldogs won their first game, 7-5 over Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale and then lost a tight 2-1 contest to Parkers Prairie.

“It was nice to be outside playing this great sport,” exclaimed OTC Head Coach Ryan Hendrickson.  “I thought we played well.  We had some of the normal struggles that all teams have at this point, but overall I saw some really good things out of our team today.  I saw great energy and excitement, good communication and drive.  These kids have worked really hard the past couple years to be where they are at, so that helped us be more prepared for our first couple of games.  I though our pitching was really good.  Lane Dilly (5IP, 0R, 3H, 8K) and Gavin Pausch gave us two really great starts, giving up 0 runs on 5 hits and only 3 walks.  That’s pretty incredible, but shows that they took their indoor bullpens seriously and got after it.  Ty Misegades (4IP, 5R, 7 H, 5K) earned the win in the Bertha game.  He struggled with control for one inning, but then buckled down and also had a great performance.  Then our last pitcher, Kaleb Hammes really stepped up and kept Parkers to one run.  He gets the loss, but that doesn’t show how well he threw.  Kaleb has great stuff and will contribute a lot, as a freshman!”

In the win over Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale, OTC broke a 5-5 tie with a pair of runs in the top of the ninth inning when Owen Buehler knocked in two with a base hit.

OTC got things started in the second inning when a run scored on a fielder’s choice grounder off the bat of Kale Misegades.  The Bulldogs totaled ten hits in the game.  Jayden Harig, Dilly and Owen Harig each contributed multiple hits.

Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale received multiple hits from Kole Weishalla, Joshua Johnson and Torii Hagen.  Hagen (1IP, 3H, 2R) took the loss.

Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale also recorded a 6-5 win over Parkers Prairie on Tuesday.
