Last year the Fergus Falls boys’ golf team qualified for the Section 8AA Tournament by taking second place in the sub-section meet.  The Otters had a young varsity team and they return all but one player from that squad.  Chance Fazio, now playing basketball at MSUM was the only senior on the team.

“Advancing to Sections was a nice accomplishment for a really young team,” stated Head Coach Matt McGovern, now in his fifth year with the Otters.  “I am really excited about this young team.  We don’t have any seniors on our team this year and we are returning 5 of our top 6 golfers who have some experience already.  These boys played a lot of golf last summer and all of them have improved tremendously.  I’m very excited to see what they can do on the golf course and I really believe we can make it to the state tournament as a team this year.”

Letter winners returning include junior captain Charlie Fuder, sophomores Riley McGovern, Ryan Nelson and Gavin Goepferd, and freshman Adam Kennedy.

Coach McGovern will also be looking to sophomores Luke Norgard and Sam Dirkman to step up and contribute at the varsity level.

McGovern says Alexandria is the team to beat in the Central Lakes Conference, while Roseau will be the main competition for the Otters in Section 8AA.
