The Hawley girls’ golf team returns five players with varsity experience from their second place Heart O’ Lakes Conference team last spring, making for some optimism heading into 2022.  Head Coach Ben Gunkelman is in his tenth year at the helm.  He feels like the Nuggets will be in the mix for the HOL title, along with Barnesville and Perham.

Returning varsity golfers include freshman Sophie Cook, who was second individually in the HOL Conference, sophomore Ivy Tickel, who was fifth in both the HOL and Section meets, qualifying for the State AA tournament, and freshman McKailee Kirsch, a 12th place finisher in the HOL Tournament last season.

Rounding out the roster are seniors Kaylee Dagenais, Alexandra Ranstrom, Kensie Larson and Jada Mickelberg, juniors Jada Jegtvig, Siriawat Rujipasanun and Destiny Salinas, sophomores Emma Brookshire and Autumn Larson, freshmen Hailey Jelinek and Amelia Joy, eighth-grader Lydia Mergner and seventh-graders Kiara Moy and Jocelyn Schenck.

“Our captains, Tallyn Ranstrom and Jada Mickelberg both showed some leadership last year on and off the course,” said Coach Gunkelman.  “Tallyn was putting in the time on the practice range and after practice was done, honing her skills.  Jada was injured all season, but still showed up to practices and helped out when she could.”
