The 2022 Underwood Rocket Boys and Girls golf teams enter the season with optimism, returning experience and the total numbers of athlete’s being the highest in a long time, should make for an exciting year.

Senior, Trevor Swonger, returns to lead the boys this season.  Last year, Trevor won the Section 6A title and went on to place 6th at the State meet.  Trevor has his goals set higher this year and will be fun to watch.  Jaxon Swonger (9th grade), Landon Ecker (Senior), and Hudson Risbrudt (9th) all had a lot of varsity experience last season and will definitely have the ability to lower our team score.

Looking to contribute as well, will be Cole Peterson (Jr.), Tyler Herr (Jr.), and Griffen Gunderson (So.)  Tyler was not able to compete last season but showed lots of promise at the J.V. level a few years ago.  Cole and Griffen competed at the J.V. level and showed they have potential to compete at the varsity level this season.

The girls will be led by Senior, Amber Frigaard.  Last year Amber participated in her first season of organized golf and was named to the Quad County All-Conference golf team.  She also narrowly missed the State meet by four strokes.  She has her goals set high this year.

Sophomore, Maddie Hoen, also competed at the varsity level last season and showed a lot of promise.  Sophomores, Kaily Burgau and Katie Hess both golfed on the J.V. team last year and could help at the varsity level this season.

I’m excited about this golf season.  Having 20 (varsity and J.V.) kids participating, the competition increases, so we are striving for improvement each and every meet.  WCA will be the team to beat in the conference and the section should be really balanced this year.

Trevor Swonger for the boys and Amber Frigaard for the girls have been named team Captains.

Coach Chuck Ross is in his tenth year at the helm.  He is assisted by Chad Gronner.
