The Alexandria girls’ golf team saw their first action of the season on Tuesday when they traveled to Pebble Creek Golf Course in Becker for an 11-team invitational which was rescheduled from last Thursday.  The Meet started with a very light drizzle during the warm-up, but then the teams enjoyed decent playing conditions for almost 3 hours, before lightning took the players off the course.  After a 45-minute delay the players were able to restart the meet in good playing conditions.  Alexandria posted the winning score of 329.  Hutchinson was second with a 360 and Detroit Lakes was third at 369.

Hannah Boraas took second individually with a round of 79 to lead the Cardinals.  Cora Larson was third with an 80, Aisling O’Connor took fifth with an 84, Rachel Bowen was sixth with an 86 and Lauren Rebrovich shot a 92, tying for twelfth place.  Ellie Sticha rounded out the Alexandria scoring with a 97, good for a tie for 23rd place.

“Hannah had a solid round of golf, with 11 pars and 7 bogeys,” noted Coach Zupfer.  “She was a little frustrated with her putting, as she managed to hit 10 of 18 greens in regulation.  She finished just one shot out of first place to McKenna Mallow of Detroit Lakes who recorded a medalist score of 78.”

Zupfer continued, “Cora also had a solid round, but she too was frustrated with her putting.  She had a round that included 1 birdie, 10 pars, 5 bogeys, and 2 double bogeys.  She did finish her last 6 holes in even par and managed to hit 10 of 18 greens in regulation.  Aisling hit her driver well, but was a little frustrated with her iron play.  She hit just 6 of 18 greens in regulation.  Aisling was pleased to also have a strong finish to her round.  Rachel tied her personal best score in varsity competition with a very fine score of 86.  She relied on a good short game and had the fewest putts for the team with 31.  Her round included 1 birdie and 7 pars. Lauren got off to a very rough start, but rebounded pretty well.  She is adjusting to new clubs and some swing changes.  Good news is that she was hitting some shots too far!  She did adapt better to her distances, as her round progressed.  Her short game also improved later in the round. Ellie had a nice start to her round, but had a few holes with some large numbers.  For the most part her ball-striking was pretty good, but a few misplayed shots cost her some penalty shots.  She, like her teammates, is hoping to have an opportunity to work on her short game as soon as possible.”
