Spartans Lose Twice in Brainerd

On Saturday in Brainerd the M State baseball team dropped both ends of a double header with the first game ending after five innings with the Raiders winning 10-0, and the nightcap going to the home team by the score of 5-1. 

The Spartans were held to just one hit in the opening game, a double by Daniel Buendorf.  The score was 1-0 after four innings, however, Central Lakes erupted for nine runs in the fifth to end the game by the ten-run rule.  The Raiders were led by Mason Argir (1-1, 3 RBI), Rylee Rauch (2-2, 2B, 2R) and Gunnar Wicklund (1-2, 2B, RBI).  Noah Cekalla (5IP, 1H, 6K) was the winning pitcher.

Central Lakes led 4-0 after four inning of the second game.  M State scored their only run of the day in the fifth inning when Cal Schmitz (2-3, BB, R) scored on a base hit by Christian NorbyTy Kargar had a double in three at bats.  Central Lakes scored their final run in the sixth.  They were led at the plate by Erubiel Ozuna (2-4, 2B, 2 RBI), Erik Bungum (2-3, 2B, RBI, R), Derin Gaudette (2-3), Noah Cekalla (1-4, 2B, RBI) and Kyle Baker (1-3, 2B, R).  The win went to Gaudette (7IP, 7H, 1ER, 2BB, 7K).  Will Hoernemann (6IP, 9H, 5ER, 4BB, 2K) took the loss.

M State will host Central Lakes in their home opening double header on Monday beginning at 1:00pm.
