Spartans Sweep Double Header with Dakota County

The M State baseball team won a pair of Sunday games at Gustavus, beating Dakota County Technical College 13-1 in five innings and 8-3 in seven innings.

Will Hoerneman was the winning pitcher in game one, allowing just 3 hits, walking two and striking out four.

A 9-run third inning put the Spartans on their way to the victory in the first game.  Dakota County also committed 7 errors in the game, leading to eight unearned runs. 

Daniel Buendorf contributed two doubles and drove in three runs to lead M State.  Cal Schmitz had a single, a double and a run batted in.

In the second game the Spartans jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings and had 8 hits compared to 4 for Dakota County.  Buendorf (1-2, 3 RBI), Jackson Martin (2-4, 2 RBI, R), Schmitz (2-3, 2B, RBI, R) and Mike Short (2-4, SB, 2R) led the offensive attack for M State.

Wyatt Halvorson (5IP, 3H, 3ER, 3BB, 9K) was the winning pitcher and Brock Depute (2IP, 1H, 2K) finished the game on the mound.

M State (5-5) has won 3 of their last 4 games and two in a row.  They are scheduled to host a double header against Central Lakes on Saturday.
